# Brume vs Coolify

> Coolify is the broader, proven option: many servers, 360+ one-click services, teams and an MCP server. Brume is a one-server alpha whose panel stays off the internet and holds no root SSH key.

Alpha 0.1 · in progress. This is https://brume.dev/vs/coolify in Markdown, for agents and terminals.

|  | Brume | Coolify |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Admin panel | On your tailnet only | [Public on port 8000 until you close it](https://coolify.io/docs/knowledge-base/server/firewall) |
| Docker access | Only a separate agent, which listens on nothing | [Root SSH, even locally. The app holds the key](https://cdn.coollabs.io/coolify/install.sh) |
| If the panel is hacked | Nothing without your session | [Root SSH access to every managed server](https://coolify.io/docs/core/security-model) |

Facts checked on November 1, 2026 in each project's official docs. "If the panel is hacked" is our reading of them. Brume is shown in its recommended modes: Cloudflare Tunnel and Tailscale.

## Where Brume is different

- No root SSH key in the app: a separate agent drives Docker.
- The firewall stays shut, port 22 included. The panel is on your tailnet.
- The admin account is set at install, not by the first visitor.

## Where Coolify is better today

- Many servers and build servers today, or a managed Cloud from $5/month.
- More than 360 one-click services, and backups for six database engines.
- Over five years of releases and more than 400 contributors.

**Pick Coolify if…** You run several servers or a team, and want a proven tool today.

**Pick Brume if…** You run one server, can try an alpha, and want no public panel or root SSH key.

## Install

```sh
curl -sSL https://brume.dev/install.sh | bash
```

Needs a fresh Debian or Ubuntu VPS and an S3-compatible bucket. Cloudflare and Tailscale recommended.
